Liver cancer is the sixth most common cancer in Europe, with approximately 87,000 new cases diagnosed annually. It has a notably high mortality rate, as it is often detected at a late stage.

Early detection of liver cancer is rare in Europe due to the lack of widespread screening programs, even though early-stage liver cancer patients have a five-year survival rate of over 70%. In contrast, advanced-stage liver cancer survival rates drop significantly.
